Align 5.8V BEC and 5.1V tail regulator on my Raptor 50Kasama

Postby sern » Sat Mar 03, 2007 10:31 pm

Just install it and try to play around the servos on table. Those servos seem to be alive!! They are sleeping all this long and now they are waking up by the 5.8V regulator. Wooow.... :o

Going to try them on air tomorrow and see how they work out. Just wish me luck...

Pro :
1) Weight saving - previous setup 1700mah NiCd + Futaba switch. Current Align Lipo 1000mah, BEC + tail reglator.
2) Play alll the servos (no load) for 10min, only take out 100mah from the pack! That's amazing. 1 hitec degital and S9251 other are analog servos.

Con :
1) Not fool prove. I have bad experiance before on other device, those hand solder wires to BEC will break. They cannot take the vib from nitro engine. However, I use goope technique to secure the wire. Let see how it work out later.
2) The small on/off switch on BEC scare me off. I am not sure how reliable it is. or maybe anyone have the idea that can share with me. I am thinking of change the lipo to BEC conector to Dean type and let the small switch on all the time.

Well... juest tested the set up for 2 flights. It make not big defferent. I just feel the swash is a bit stronger... :? So, this upgrade is just so so for me.

After 2 flights the light on BEC in dicated the voltage drop to 7.8V and blinking if I play all the servos at one time, I guess I still can go for another flight without problem but I didn't tested it.... just a bit kia su. I want to see how many amp ut take out from the pack 1st. Still charging the Lipo pack now and well see it take out how many am from the pack.

Hi Sern,
I'm using the same 5.1v regulator and its been working very well on my Swift. But I hard wired it directly to my tail servo to reduce weight and also eliminate one possible connector failure:

I've got the Align regulator but decided to use a Medusa BEC instead to save more weight.
Good luck.
Hope to get tips from here.

Thanks for sharing borneobear. Not this connector I have concern. I am worry about the lipo to BEC connector and the samll switch on BEC.

I already complete the full charge for the lipo and seem like 2 flights only take out 409mah....

hi Sern,

I have some questions to ask you and some suggestions lor...

1. At yor tail servo, there is a Normal or Switching 5.1V regulator ?
2. What is your voltage level to your gyro servo and the rest of the servos (with LOAD)? This is becasue I am NOT really understand what is your current circuit design at your HELI?
3. I have some experiences on hand soldier wire for my high speed car wire and I dont see any wire broken during vibration. I think should be the material issue and temp profile setting is not enough during soldering.
4. I dont think connector is an issue as long as your wire and connector can standstill for high amp, voltage and temp.

>> No sure. I don't need space tech answer to get it fly.

2. What is your voltage level to your gyro servo and the rest of the servos (with LOAD)? This is becasue I am NOT really understand what is your current circuit design at your HELI?
>> Me too not sure.

3. I have some experiences on hand soldier wire for my high speed car wire and I dont see any wire broken during vibration. I think should be the material issue and temp profile setting is not enough during soldering.
>> level of vibaration is not similar. On top of this, on heli it expose to nitro fuel and they are corrosive.

4. I dont think connector is an issue as long as your wire and connector can standstill for high amp, voltage and temp.
>> No becouse of this factors. I am worry about vibration and nitro get in to the switch.

3 and 4. Look for better material can standstill the fuel and corrosive resistant.
